One of the things that I love most about network marketing is also a thing that can be one of the biggest downsides to the network marketing industry.  A network marketing business is by far one of the easiest ones to start.  You don’t need to worry about finding a suitable location, or paying rent and utilities on a physical structure.  You also don’t have to bother with employees, salaries and benefits.  The issues facing the owner of a traditional brick and mortar business do not apply to the network marketer.  Oh, and have I mentioned the start-up costs yet?  You don’t need $1 million for a franchise fee.  You don’t even need $150,000.  In most cases, you can begin your entrepreneurial endeavors with an initial investment of less than $500!  How amazing is that?  You can own your own business, a business that has the potential to make you a millionaire, for less than the cost of a puppy!

So, how can this great fact about network marketing possibly have a downside?  It’s precisely because it’s so inexpensive to start this type of business.  The question becomes, “Are you treating this like a potential million dollar business, or are you treating it like it cost $495?”  I’ve had monthly car payments that cost more than the initial, one-time fee to start a network marketing business!

We sometimes have the tendency to treat things according to how much they cost us.  How many times have you broken something, or lost something, and said that it was no big deal because you could just go buy another one?  But how different is our reaction when we are dealing with something we consider expensive, like our cars or homes?  When the perceived value is great, we tend to treat it with more care and respect.  When something is easily replaceable, that same care and respect are often not found.  For some people, the low start-up cost of a network marketing business causes them to lessen the value, in their minds, of their business.  This can be at the subconscious level, so that the person does not even realize they are doing it.

If you want your business to give you the kind of financial independence that you’ve dreamed of, you must treat it like the million dollar business that it can be.  Realize just what it is that you have your hands on, and give it the respect and attention that it deserves.  Only then will you have the possibility of reaping the financial rewards.
