Reek – I love that word! I don’t get many opportunities to use it, so I purposefully put it in the title of this post.  It’s not the kind of word that connotes something pleasant. It’s rather the opposite, isn’t it.  When you’re camping, you can reek of smoke.  When you were 4, chances are you reeked havoc upon your parents and/or siblings (at least, all of my kids have so reeked).  According to the dictionary, it is “a strong, unpleasant smell;” or “to be strongly pervaded with something unpleasant or offensive.”  Nope, not too appealing.

So why am I so fascinated with reeking (so to speak)?  Because it can be deadly in your network marketing business.  Are you reeking of desperation?  If so, you might as well go back home, pull the covers up over your head, and forget about sharing your opportunity with anyone with a pulse.  People will be able to read your desperation, which will no doubt turn them off from even considering going into business with you.

We all want to succeed and see our businesses grow.  That being said, we have to go about it in a way that won’t scare everyone away.  If you come across as too needy, people will doubt not only you but your opportunity.  I know that it’s sometimes easier said than done, but you have to develop the attitude that you have something extremely valuable (because you do), and that you want others to be aware of it so they can also have a vehicle to realize their dreams.  But, they need to know that it ultimately doesn’t matter whether or not they join the business because you are building it with or without them.  Exuding an air of confidence and purpose is much more attractive than reeking of desperation!
