I don’t know about you, but I have had a few flaws I’ve had to address as I started building a home-based business. Some are minor and have virtually no effect on me or anyone else. Others, however, needed to be met head-on and overcome, lest they become detrimental. One such issue that I had to deal with early in my network marketing career was simply getting started on something. It seems like I was always getting ready to get ready to start, but never actually starting toward accomplishing anything. I was one of those people who was mired in the thought process that said that I had to know as much as possible about something before I could get started working on that particular thing. I just had to be certain that I completely understood all aspects of a compensation plan, or all of the benefits of a particular product or service, or exactly how I could market the business online, or exactly the correct thing to say to prospects in every situation, or . . . well, you get the idea.

Funny thing, though, as I spent more and more time getting ready to get ready to start, making sure I knew as much as possible so that I could be as successful as possible and max-out the comp plan, I never actually made any “real” money with that approach. I ignored the advice to just get out there and do something, regardless of whether I thought I knew enough or not. I had experts I could rely on if I needed answers to questions that I didn’t know, but I still didn’t want anyone to think that I wasn’t in complete control or that I didn’t have all the answers to my business. Predictably, I did not come close to maxing out the comp plan.

No one has all the answers, and the fact is, most people don’t care if you have all the answers at your finger tips or not if you are able to get the answers. I’d much rather have someone tell me, “That’s a great question, I’m not sure of the answer, but I know who does know the answer,” as opposed to someone sounding as if they are making up answers as they go. None of us likes that, and there’s no doubt we’ve all experienced that at some point in our lives. Not having all the answers takes nothing away from your opportunity and the potential everyone has to generate an income when they follow the steps and actually work the business.

If you get out there and start making contacts, share your opportunity and, perhaps more importantly, share your enthusiasm for the business, before you have all the answers and know everything, you have the ability to bring people into your business at the earliest stages.  Waiting until you feel comfortable in having all the answers will most likely result in bringing no one into your business, making no money, and becoming discouraged because “this network marketing thing doesn’t work.”  Your conviction and your belief has a greater impact than your ability to recite every detail of the company.  So, just start already!
